The Beacons represent social sustainability within the urban fabric of Zeeburgureiland, a brand new district in Amsterdam.

The two residential building blocks contain owner-occupied and rental properties of different sizes and the diverse outdoor spaces contribute to the varied image of the façade. Between the residential blocks sits a safe, green courtyard where all the residents can come together and enjoy a quiet piece of the city. The architectural courtyard is built as a roof garden over the parking area and uses strong lines of planting and water along with specially designed furniture. In addition to the roof garden, the homes are connected to the outdoor space along the building facades where individual plinths offer outdoor spaces for apartments on the first floor and further activate the urban zone.
