Working with MIX Architectuur and Merosch Sustainability, LANDLAB has designed the total vision for a new, climate adaptive development within the Bosrijk neighborhood of Eindhoven. The design is structured around the four principles of The Natural Step: Energy, Material, Nature and Man. These four principles form the guidelines for the plan and ensure the architecture and landscape work together seemlessly.
Waldschap is a climate adaptive development. From the urban planning level to the detailing, influences from and for the urban microclimate have been considered. The architecture sits in the landscape, blending in by using natural materials reminiscent of the surrounding environement.
The landscape forms clusters of richer biodiversity by enlarginging and widening a natural wetland zone and creating a strong connection to the residential landscape. The houses sit slightly higher, allowing the landscape to transform into it's former state of a heath vegetation. The alteration from a dry landscape to wetlands further enriches the local ecosystem with even greater species richness.
